In 2017, the Newmont - Buenaventura mining company, located near the city of Cajamarca in northern Peru, requested a power study related to its expansion plan which requires an additional 80 MW (Year 2021).
Using an ETAP model, validated with the operating values of the energy meters of the electrical system in operation, EISAC conducted a study focusing on the concepts of optimization that an electrical system must have for mining operations.
The study analyzed eight future operating scenarios taking into account the concepts of reliability and energy quality, voltage levels, motor starting, power factor values and real-time energy management, with the aim of optimizing the electrical system to operate at a lower cost and to minimize future investment in improving the electrical system.
The final report of the study gave a list of conclusions and recommendations to be implemented in the future.
Other studies conducted for Newmont Buenaventura-Yanacocha:
2007 - Gold Mill Study, 1st Stage.
2008 - Gold Mill Study, 2nd Stage.
