In 2002, Sociedad Minera Cerro Verde (SMCV) requested a detailed study of its entire electrical system.
Recent changes in the national interconnected system almost doubled the short-circuit power at the 138 KV bar. In addition, the expansion of 230 Tn / day of copper in the process made it necessary for SMCV protection equipment to be reviewed and coordinated again.
It was also required that the feeders be checked to determine if they could withstand the new short circuit power.
EISAC developed the mathematical model of the entire SMCV Electrical System using the ETAP PowerStation software and performed load flow, short circuit, harmonics, coordination and protection studies. In the final report, a list of recommendations was given to increase the reliability of the SMCV electrical system, which was 100% implemented.
