The Minera Chinalco Peru -Toromocho electrical system presented abnormal events that required an investigation of the design concepts and criteria of the electrical system plus specialized electrical studies of protection coordination, generation and harmonic analysis. Abnormal events included the failure of power transformers, cycle converters, untimely mill outputs, and others. In 2018, MCP requested a harmonic study in order to find the sources that could be causing the abnormal operation.
EISAC performed this study in three stages:
· Field measurements: 52 measurement with PQ-Box measuring devices
· ETAP modeling of the complete electrical system validated with field measurements
· Analysis, Simulation and Mitigation of harmonic currents
The final report of the study gave a list of conclusions and recommendations to be implemented in the future.
Other studies conducted for Chinalco:
2019 - Pre-Operation Study (EPO) for the Lime Plant
2020 - ArcFlash Study for MCP -Toromocho
